Video Game Reviews of Shin Megami Tensei: Devil SurvivorCustomer Review: Excellent Game Summary: 5 StarsI'm a teenager using my mother's account and this was, originally the first game that I had ever played by Atlus. I must admit, it was good enough to convince me to buy some of their other games, including Persona 3 FES and Persona 4.
This game is a fairly advanced RPG, where your character can choose what to say, which affects how their story will end. I personally found the other characters to be both realistic and believable, none of the "overly-heroic" or "so-useless-it's-not-even-funny" NPC's I've come to expect in most RPG's. The plotline is strange, but it interested me enough to keep me playing the game to the end, although I haven't quite finished it yet. The graphics in the game aren't fantastic, but they aren't horribly cheesy either. The music is decent, though, not so much that I kept the sound on every time I played. The turn-based fighting system was just what I wanted, as I am not a big fan of the "swing-your-sword-around-like-a-maniac" form of fighting. I prefer to carefully plan out how I'm going to fight before doing so. This game is perfect for that. The demon-creating ability was rather fun as there are all sorts of combinations that create demons with unique strengths and weaknesses. It's not particularly difficult to play, overall.
The only true weak points that I could find in this game were the saving system and the time for leveling up. The saving system is very basic, you have one saved game and that's it, kind of like Pokemon, if you need an example. This game is also not one where you can expect to blaze straight through without spending any time leveling up. You do have to stop from going directly through the story in order to level up, or else you can expect a quick defeat.
Overall, this game is a good purchase if you are a fan of RPG's or if you are a strategist-type gamer like myself.
