Video Game Reviews of The Sims 2: CastawayCustomer Review: One of the Most Frustrating Games I've Ever Played Summary: 2 StarsI too am a big fan of the Sims franchise, and had a blast playing the (highly addictive) Sims 2 for the DS. But I am ready to throw Castaway into the sea.
While a cool concept and fun to get started on, it becomes very frustrating very quickly. I spend all my time now hunting one particular kind of fish so I can progress through the game. It's been three days and I still have not caught the stupid fish.
I guess the game is still too new to have a helpful walkthrough online, but from what I've read in the forums there are a lot of people as frustrated as I am at other points in the game which makes me not very anxious to move forward anyway. There is something to be said for a challenge--but not to the point that it makes you become so frustrated you want to put down the game!
Customer Review: Great Fun! Summary: 5 StarsIf you are having a hard time finding the objects there are tons of online forums describing and solving every type of problem with this game. So don't fear, if you're stuck just google the title and help.
But this game isn't that hard, though at times challanging (it's refreshing to have something that doesn't get repetative or finished within the week). I wish it would go on and on forever. It is definetly my favorite DS game!
Customer Review: my son's opinion Summary: 5 StarsThis game is "sweet." According to my son, it is the best game he has. He wanted to play it all the time after opening it for Christmas. Recommend this one!
Customer Review: A terrific Nintendo DS game! Summary: 4 StarsPurchased for my daughter for her birthday, The Sims 2: Castaway has been hours of fun for her. The complexity of the Sims game means it doesn't get old. This game is better for older kids, as it requires strategy and persistence to raise your level and do well at the game. A wonderful game!
Customer Review: Nice and Different Summary: 4 StarsI received this game recently, as my first Sims game on DS, and it's a nice change from the previous portable Sims games, concept wise. You're stranded on an island and have a series of tasks to complete to get off. Now, it's not like previous games where the tasks are so cut and dry that they're literally written out for you. You have to really explore and think critically about what you're doing to move ahead. You don't meet goals, but rather collect items and help out other castaways so that you can recieve the tools or abilities necessary to move on in the game. And of course, you have to maintain your needs. There are barriers that keep you from moving on until you've completed certain tasks, so the game is paced, but it does take some buildup of skill and knowledge of the game to figure out what to do next.
It does get a little monotonous collecting all of the items to completely finish the game. You can actually "win" and find a way off the island pretty easily and early on, but when I reached that point I had only found 45% of what existed on the island.
The layout is very different from previous games, almost set in a side-scrolling fashion, but there are features that eliminate tedious tasks. For example,a map selection screen that lets you select your location and land there automatically so that you don't have to walk from location to location--it's a nice feature, you'll see. ;)
The graphics honestly aren't much better than previous games, and my hands get a little tired from having to hold the stylus, prop up the console, and manage the control pad to move the screen back and forth (not necessary, but it's a nice option), but it definitely has me just as addicted as the last several Sims games.
