First thing's first. This is a tricky repair to do, and it's pretty easy to screw up and break your DS. Myself, I managed to break the touchscreen when trying to change the stick on bezel/border for it, and had to later replace the touchscreen (not the LCD panel below it, just the touchscreen on top of it).
The shell isn't terrible, but it isn't perfect. The buttons feel a little less responsive, the power slider doesn't has too much friction to slide back to its original position on its own, and the included stylus was so shoddily cast, it would simply fall out of the hole, not to mention it was covered in very sharp plastic edges sticking out, ready to scratch any touchscreen it encountered.
All in all, I'm glad I purchased it, however. My hinge was broken on my old shell, and the shell itself was filthy and worn. My shoulder buttons didn't work well anymore, either, from accumulated gunk. While I had it apart, I blasted the buttons on the board itself with a little WD-40, cleared up that problem immediately. The case itself looks quite nice, and the pieces of it match up well enough that most people wouldn't know the difference. It all functions more or less as intended. I can play my games just fine, and my original stylus fits in the slot perfectly well, without falling out like the one it came with. Expect to throw away the included stylus.
Also, when possible, use parts from your original case. The new screws are of poor quality. One sheered off when I installed it, forcing me to cut away some of the plastic to remove it again. Thankfully this was inside the case, and isn't visible. A longer screw was able to take its place. Inside the right side of the hinge, fits the bit that makes the top half snap shut, and the lid open to the correct angle. I don't know what this piece is called, but use the one from your original DS if you still have it. The included part functioned very poorly for me. I took it out and used the original, which works perfectly.
My suggestion to you, if you're considering purchasing this product, is to consider the decision very carefully. Watch youtube videos of other people doing the repair first, so you know what you're getting into. It's fiddly, tedious, and tricky to complete, and there are a number of very fragile parts you can break. From what I hear, plenty of people break the ribbon cable going from the top screen to the motherboard, and though I managed to complete the repair without breaking this cable, it was a bastard of a thing to finagle through the slot, roll up to slide through the hinge, etc. It's a difficult task, and if you don't think you're up to it, do yourself a favor and send your DS off to someone who knows what the hell they're doing.
The shell, though, it's not too bad. I don't regret the purchase at all. I expect most shells are of this quality or poorer, from the looks of them, and the reviews I've seen. You take your chances with these things, as they're all questionably legal copies made someplace in china, and not made by nintendo.
Oh, and I noticed that others said it came with no instructions, and without the triwing screwdriver. This apparently varies from person to person. Mine lacked instructions, but came with the triwing and a phillips screwdriver. The triwing it came with was too big, though, and I had to wait for another to arrive before I could complete the repair. The phillips worked well enough, though. Also, it came with no directions, but I'm not too worried about that. I watched a series of youtube videos detailing the process, which is much better than printed instructions.
Regardless, do your homework, and if you don't think you're up to it, don't try. You'll just end up bricking your DS, and making it cost even more money to have someone else fix it. If you do think you're up to it, give it your best, and good luck.
