Video Game Reviews of Castlevania Dawn of SorrowCustomer Review: Great Game Summary: 5 StarsCastlevania: Dawn of Sorrow was the first 2D version of castlevania, that I had played in a long time. Well to be onest, the first one since Castlevania II: Belmonts Quest, came out on the NES back in the 80's. I never got to play Super Castlevania, or the amazing PSX versions(which I should have, after playing this game, and buying the 2 previous GBA games).
This was an amazing change ot the games for me. in the original, it was really hard to beat, and made you frustrated. II fixed it a little, and made you search for Dracula's body, and then destroy it, but was frustrating, as you had no real direction and most of the weapons tended to suck. This however, was an amazing game. It eases you into the game, you have a lot of HP at your disposal, and can regain them(take that 1980's games) quite often, from potions, or from a save point, or souls.
The souls are a great thing, and am loving it in the previous game as well. They range from you not taking as much damage, to growing a tail, to shooting lightning or bombs, and letting you throw a doll, and switch places with it. I enjoyed this game, and was determined to finish it. I don't currently have 100%, but on my first time through I got 98% which is nice, because I have played games through, and you finish with 48% and you completed the entire game.
The touch screen is not used often in the game, but when it is used it is used well. You only need it to destroy a few blocks that are in the way, and to input magic seals whihc you need to defeat the bosses and get through certain doors. It plays great, although you can cheat and not have to hit the points perfect, as long as your are quick(which is a good thing, as most people are not perfectionists, or if they are, are really slow). The game is difficult, but not overbearing like many of the series have been in the past.
I loved this game, and will play it for a long time, even though I have beaten it before. I will try Julius mode, which is the more traditional, difficult castlevania game using a Belmont(finally) with a whip, no souls, no potions, it will be tough, but I will enjoy it greatly. If you own a DS, you need to own this game.
Customer Review: No Sorrows here......Castlevania at its finest!!!! Summary: 5 Stars In my opinion this is the 2nd best castlevania sequel to date. While Symphony of the Night holds the title; Sorrow is still top-notch entertainment. The graphics are on par (if not better in someparts)than Symphony, but the overall length of the main-game falls a bit short. You could take hours trying to collect all of the souls of the 100+ monsters in the game, but only a handfull of them real help you proceed further in the game. Sorrow has about half the boss count as Symphony or Dissonance for example. And once you uncover the full 100% of the castle map; you will be surprised to see that it's not all that big. Other than that one flaw, Castlevania:Dawn of Sorrow is the reason to own a Nintendo DS. This game has Gigantic bosses, great music, challenging gameplay, and the 2nd best experience in the Castlevania universe. If anyone has a DS you would disservice yourself in not picking this one up ASAP because the price of this one is gonna go up in the years to come.
Customer Review: Sorrow Summary: 4 StarsIn castlevania dawn of sorrow you try to stop a cult from ressurecting a dark lord. the game is fun but collecting souls can be tedious and I think that the puzzles are not very challenging.
Customer Review: A very good side-scroller Summary: 4 StarsThis is the game that convinced me to buy a Nintendo DS. The first time I played this was on my friend's system. It is a very solid adventure, with RPG elements (level, stats, equipment). The soul system is well thought-out and balanced. The enemy mobs are very animated and unique. You have the choice of viewing the map or your character status on the top screen, so the days of pausing 100 times are now over. This game was much more enjoyable than the Megaman X + series. If you don't have the patience for games like Tales of Phantasia or Golden Sun, this action/adventure is for you.-
Customer Review: Just Plain AWESOME Summary: 5 StarsThis is the best 2D scroller out there. The controls are intuitive, responsive and the game play never gets boring. The sound/music is very well composed and plays well over the DS's speakers Highly recommended.
