Video Game Reviews of Time HollowCustomer Review: Definitely An Underrated Game.... Summary: 5 Stars(First off allow me to say that this will be one of my shorter reviews since revealing too much of anything in Time Hollow will ruin the story for people)
Time Hollow starts off when a soon to be 17 year old boy named Ethan has a seemingly normal day with his family, little does he know that's all about to change. When Ethan gets into a little argument with his mom and dad the night before his birthday,he goes to sleep angry,he wakes up to find his mom and dad gone and finds out hes now living with his uncle Derek, apparently his parents have been missing for 12 years! Shortly after (or before, cant quite remember, sorry) this little conversation Ethan finds a pen and a note attached to his pet cat Sox,apparently this pen is special,it has the power to change the past for the better (or worse). Ethan then makes up his mind that hes going to try and find out what happened to his parents by using the hollow pen,of course things never go as planned,Ethan has many obstacles to overcome before he can find out what happened to his parents.
Gameplay is rather simple, this is a point and click type game (also known as a 'graphic novel) basically what you do is review these flashbacks Ethan gets,go to the location in the flashback as well as trying to figure out what time/day the flashback was, point at a few things, read, use hollow pen, rinse and repeat. Time Hollow does have a few Anime quality cut scenes to depict important advances in the story, the total time of these is about 5-8min (including opening) not bad at all considering the storage limitations with the DS cards.
Time Hollow is clearly aimed at the 17(16)+ group of gamers, not because of any violence or course language, but because the story is written in such a way that anyone younger than 16 and under may feel like they cant connect with the main character, the story also gives the impression that Junior Classmen are less important than seniors, this may put off the younger kids.
A lot of people say that Time Hollow is too short (not just the reviewers on Amazon) but it took me 9 hours and 45 minutes over the course of 2.5 days (give or take 30min,there is no in game clock so I had to time myself each time I played) to beat.
Replayabilty wise,Time Hollow is pretty much a one show pony, there is a bonus ending you can get (its basically an extension of the main ending) but this only requires you to play through the first 10 minutes of the start of a new game (on your 'continue file' think of it as a new game+) so all in all Time Hollow took me almost 10 hours with the bonus ending.
It should be mentioned that there is no real challenge in Time Hollow,so its a good game to just take in and enjoy, the music is SPECTACULAR! (and I never comment on game music) the music is just perfect, especially the opening theme.
You must pick this game up if you like the Anime art style and graphic novels! This would complement Trace Memory nicely :D.
Description of Time HollowTime Hollow follows the story of Ethan Kairos and the mysterious disappearance of his entire family. As he searches for them he comes across a Hollow Pen. This uncanny object has the unique power to open portals to the past. This new ability allows Ethan to change the past in order to solve problems in the present. Through the use of this mystical pen he must follow events in the present and past to locate his missing family. This mysterious adventure takes bold new steps in the story-driven adventure genre. Incorporating the new gameplay mechanic of the Hollow Pen, controlled with the stylus, players will be able to uncover the truth and save the present by creating Holes in time to search through both the present and past. To supplement the gameplay, key scenes are presented in full animation sequences designed by AIC, the producers of the anime series Blood+ and Gun X Sword.
