After picking up CrossworDS, I was mildly disappointed. Repetitive and unimaginative clues ('AAA, BBB, ..., DDD', so the answer is CCC, for example) made me lose interest quickly. Not so with the NYT Crosswords. Hundreds of unique puzzles of varying difficulty will keep you busy for a long, long, time, and the excellent wireless multiplayer mode helps when two want to play but you can't stand someone doing the puzzle over your shoulder. The handwriting recognition and interface are top-notch, and the hint system is there if you need it, but with enough restrictions you won't abuse it. If you have a DS and like crossword puzzles, pick this one up.
