Video Game Reviews of Kirby Super Star UltraCustomer Review: One of the Most Replayable Games Ever Made Summary: 5 StarsI apologize for the long review. In short, this is an awesome game that is fun to replay over and over.
The original Kirby's Super Star was an amazing game, and pretty much everybody would agree. It introduced things as simple as the unique hats Kirby dons with each new power and as complex as the wide array of moves gained with every ability. It also had colorful graphics, incredibly catchy music, and some of the best cooperative play Nintendo has ever conceived. Needless to say, I bought KSSU with high expectations.
And guess what: it lived up to my expectations. Let me break it down:
Gameplay:
Fast-paced platforming makes up the bulk of the game. What really makes it special, however, is Kirby's signature abilities. In his standard form Kirby can run, jump, slide, and float. He can also suck up enemies, allowing him to steal their powers (if they have any). This can let Kirby use bombs, swords, yo-yos, lasers, fire, ice, plasma, microphones, hammers, and mirrors as weapons. If for some reason you want a new power (or your friend wants to play), you can turn the enemy you ate into a helper to be controlled by the computer or player 2. About halfway through the Great Cave Offensive, you'll also run into an RPG-style boss, complete with 8-bit music. There are also several mini-games that use the stylus, but they're nothing special. The original mini-games are also unlockable.
Music:
All of the music is upbeat, catchy, and simply beautiful. From the calypso style of Float Islands to the fast-paced Candy Mountain, this game is full of amazing music. And the best part is that a Sound Test mode is included, so you can listen to every song--even the ones in the cutscenes!
Graphics:
The graphics of Super Star have been upgraded with a better palette, additional shading, and richer backgrounds. The game really shines during the pre-rendered 3D cutscenes that replace the old, 2D ones. They really do look great, especially for the DS.
Longevity:
This game is simply addictive. The gameplay is fine-tuned so that you'll want to play over and over again. After you've finished the original seven games you unlock four new ones and the original mini-games. The new games include Meta Knightmare Ultra, in which you rush through Spring Breeze, Dyna Blade, Great Cave Offensive, Revenge of Meta Knight (oh, the irony), and Milky Way Wishes as the masked swordsman himself. He also gains energy from defeating enemies to summon a helper, temporarily increase speed, heal, and deal massive damage to every enemy on the screen.
Revenge of the King is a harder version of Spring Breeze. All of the levels are longer, the enemies take more hits to kill, and everything looks...strange. Once you get over the graphical changes, this mode is highly enjoyable.
Helper to Hero allows both Player 1 and 2 to play as any Helper in the game in a shortened version of the arena. This mode is fun for those who like the Arena and the Helpers, obviously.
The final game mode is actually quite daunting. True Arena takes the original arena's bosses and replaces them with much harder versions, including those from Revenge of the King. Some players may not be able to complete this mode, but those who can have mastered the game. This truly is the ultimate Kirby challenge.
Overall:
With amazing gameplay, beautiful music, stunning graphics, and added game modes, Kirby Super Star Ultra has managed to make an instant classic even better. This is a must-buy game for any DS owner. Trust me, you'll find yourself playing KSSU over and over again.
Customer Review: Very Nice Summary: 5 StarsI really like Kirby Super Star Ultra.(notice how I said like instead of liked, I have had it for a month and I am still playing!) It is so much fun and I can play it in the car without getting car sick. kirby is a very cute little pink blob(in my opinion) and I would definiitly get this game if you are looking for a good source of enterainment.
Customer Review: Great for kids Summary: 5 StarsI bought this game for my 5 and 6 year old sons. It is one of their favorite games and they constantly are finding new things that keep them intrigued and interested. They are big fans of Mario Bros. and Mario Go Kart, but this is different enough that it complements the other games. I would highly recommend it.
Customer Review: My 8 yr old says it is the best game! Summary: 5 StarsI don't play Kirby but my 8 yr old who has several Nintendo DS games ONLY plays Kirby since she got it for Xmas....Which is a bummer since I got her some other games and now she plays none of them. She said "But MOm, after Kirby, everything else seems BORING!"
So I guess that makes for a positive review.
Customer Review: the best kirby game yet Summary: 5 Starskirby super star ultra is a great game and there are a ton of levels and a ton of boss fighting and you can even play as meta knight and you can call a cpu (computer programing unit) helper who helps you in the game I would recommend this game to any kirby fan.
