Video Game Reviews of Mario Party DS

Customer Review: Granddaughter loves it!
Summary: 5 Stars

The seller was very prompt in sending this game that I bought on Amazon and my granddaughters love playing it on their DS.

Customer Review: Love it!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am fairly new to video games in general. The DS is the first game system I've ever owned (for about 2 months now), and this is my first review. Other games I have/enjoy are The New Super Mario Bros., Animal Crossing, Professor Layton, Mario Kart, Brain Age, and so on.

I really love this game! I feel like it gives an even mix of button/stylus use, which I really like. It's impossible to get bored, because there are so many options of what to do, not only while on the menu (story mode, multiplayer mode, etc.), but also within the game. The minigames vary in nature and technique, keeping me interested. Also, tying in fun of regular board games is a great plus.

I play it mostly on single player mode, as my boyfriend is always busy with his new wii, but I found that multi-player mode is really great as well.

I know there are reviews on here that are more detailed and from more video game knowledgeable people than me, but I hope that this review is helpful to someone, perhaps someone as unfamiliar with v-games as I was. In short, let me put it this way - Mario Party DS is the first video game I have liked so much that I felt compelled to write a review and spread the word! :) Go get it and enjoy it!

Customer Review: Mario Party ds - Worst Mario game ever made!
Summary: 1 Stars

Hello I'm an autistic adult gamer.

This is my review on Mario Party ds.

I rented this game from my local library for free for 3 week's. The storyline was cute but when it came to actual gameplay I couldn't figure it out. Glad I rented this game & didn't waste no money on it.

Do your self a favor save your money don't waste your cash on this game.

Customer Review: OKay alone better with friends.

If you've played other Mario Party games this is very similar. Just like those other Mario Party games this one is best with people to play it with. I simply played the single player to unlock the extra board so it could be played multiplayer. But if you have even one other person with a DS and you both like Mario Party, I'd say go for it, it's fun.

Customer Review: Mario Party DS
Summary: 4 Stars

Being a huge fan of the original N64 Mario Party games, I will say that Nintendo did a very good job developing this one for the DS.

The good points:

1. Unlike the original Mario Party (where you could not save mid-game) this one gives you a chance to save at the end of every roll when playing story mode. Sometimes I wish I could save more often, but it usually doesn't take more than a few minutes between save points.

2. Has a lot of mini-games that a very varied as far as using mic, stylus and button pad. (And they're a lot of fun!)

3. Has multiple play options for a solo player. You can do the story adventure, play a minigame challenge or just screw around with some puzzles. This is very good because there are some games that are obviously designed for multiplayer being little or no fun for one, and some only for one player which is annoying, while this game has a pretty good mix of the two.

4. The boards are all unique with a variety of events that can happen when you land on a space and different requirements to get stars. This is helpful because it keeps the different boards from becoming repetitive.

I am thoroughly addicted to this game and I am a fan of the N64 games (I still have one in excellent condition) and get very excited whenever they re-release it's games for modern platforms.

Now, I did give this review 4 stars for a reason.

1. There are five different play boards. While each of them are unique and a lot of fun in order to unlock the unlockables you have to play the same boards over with each charachter. Not a terribly hard task, but I wish that there were a few more boards to not only make it more challenging but give even more variety.

2. When you play you unlock items. While you can unlock all the mini-game modes and the triangle twister game, the rest of them are gallery items which serve no function other than to look at them. (I have seen similar things in other games like Donkey Kong so maybe the Gallery is just a Nintendo thing.)

3. In the original Mario Party stars were given out at the end for things like most coins, most mini-game wins etc. This one does not have that which is a little dissapointing.

All in all I am very pleased with this game. Classic Mario Party gameplay with a DS update. One thing that you must know about this game before buying is that is it is like a board game. Sure there are mini-games and they require a certain amount of skill but a good portion of this game is luck/chance so be prepared for that. I love things like this because I was born without godlike video game reflexes so I am terrible at games like Halo - which rely heavily on skill. This shouldn't necessarily deter you from buying it I just think that it's something you should know before going in that there is a lot of luck/chance involved in gameplay. Some people are just too competitive for games like these- either that or they don't know how to lose gracefully.
