i actually bought this for my 7 year old and he and his little brother are totally addicted to it. in fact, they prefer this over the Wii...!
the good:
- it's portable
- good battery life
- excellent game selection (for 5 and 7 year old Mario Bros, and Pokemon fans)
the bad:
- you cannot communicate with your kid when they're playing
- game cards are easily lost when your kid is unorganized like mine
if you haven't seen children around a DS, it's like a Santa walking through a mall. other kid's will start crowding around and suddenly it's a mob scene. my kids now speak a whole different language which i can't understand but it's something they really enjoy...
so, buyer beware. it's a great toy that'll keep your kid entertained for hours, but as with all good things there is a price to pay...

I have owned a Nintendo DS for a couple of years now, and it is one of my best friends on long and boring road trips or just to waste time and have fun. Here I review some of the pros and cons of the DS:
Pros:
Great, unique, and attractive design
Two screens, allowing for unique gameplay
Touch Screen
Backward Compatibility with Gameboy Advanced Games
Reasonable Pricing
Great Battery Life (10 hours max)
Great New Games and Classics
Cons:
Worse graphics than other handhelds, such as PSP
Games are more expensive
No analog stick
As you can see, the pros definitely outweigh the cons, and this console is definitely a must for any gamer! I personally have had mounds of fun with my DS, so here are some games I'd suggest:
Mario Kart DS
Pokémon Platinum
New Super Mario Bros
The Legend of Zelda-Phantom Hourglass
