Video Game Reviews of Nintendo DS Lite Onyx BlackCustomer Review: Hands off kids! This is Moms DS Summary: 5 StarsGoing all the way back to the Game Boy Color my kids have always had a hand held gaming system. Previous to the Nintendo DS Lite I never felt like it was acceptable for the parent to play them. (At least not in public.) So when my daughter received her Nintendo DS Lite for Christmas in 2006, I knew Nintendo had finally made the move to expand their target demographic.
This was sleek, compact and portable touch screen gaming like this was still new. Because of the price and Nintendos history of coming out with a new "improved" system quite often, I decided to wait a while...a while ended up being 2 1/2 years. My beautiful, new Nintendo DS Lite in Onyx Black was a birthday present to myself this last April.
I was questioned by my kids and others as to why I didn't go with the newly released Nintendo DSi? My simple answer was I already have a camera, a computer for internet browsing, an Mp3 player, I still have Game Boy games I'd like to play and the DS Lite has a longer battery life. Add those to the increased price and it didn't make sense not to buy this one, at least for me.
Do I love it as much as I thought I would? YES! It has been a great way to pass time at the doctors office, commute to work, plane rides, waiting to pick the kids up, etc. Sometimes I play for as little as 5 minutes and sometimes for as long as 30. I carry it around in my purse in the DS Lite Dura-Case which holds 6 games nicely and keeps my system from being damaged. A couple of games that I highly recommend if you enjoy puzzle and/or brain games are: The Quest Trio, Professor Layton and the Curious Village and Brain Age 2: More Training in Minutes a Day!.
Overall this is a very user friendly game system and while it's great for kids, it's also now okay for the parents to own one too.
Customer Review: my favorite video game system EVER Summary: 5 Starsthis is the best video game system i've every played. i'm an old-school gamer and the style of new games suits me. not totally for hard-core gamers, but still much, much depth and fun gameplay. the game-boy advance slot means i can play literally all my favorite old nes games on the go.
Customer Review: DS Lite is a good buy! Summary: 4 StarsI got the DS Lite long after it came out, and I never had the original. So, I won't be comparing this one to the original DS. Anyway, the DS is a great system, and I've thoroughly enjoyed having it, although I have some minor quibbles. Let the review begin!
First off, the DS Lite is well-designed for the most part. It's sleek, sassy, and attractive. The screens have a built-in brightness adjustment feature, which is nice. Overall, the design is good. I do have one complaint, though. I have the black version and it seems to be a magnet for fingerprints. I don't know if it's just the color or the material or what, but I can just wave my hand over it and fingerprints will appear. Oh well, a nice decal will solve that problem!
Now, as much as I love my DS Lite, the fact remains that the PSP has way better graphics. So, the PSP is the more technically impressive machine. However, the DS has a better game library, which is why I chose it. Truth be told, if the PSP had the same game library available, I would have chosen it. Not necessarily because of the graphics (which don't matter all that much to me), but because of the touch screen. You heard me. I really don't know how to feel about the touch screen. On the one hand, point-and-click adventures make really good use of the touch screen and are fun to play that way. On the other hand, because a touch screen is available, game developers feel the need to shoehorn in as much touch screen functionality as possible, even when it hurts gameplay. For example, Sonic Chronicles forces you to do everything with the touch screen, including moving your character when it would be so much less tedious to use the d-pad. I suppose that's the fault of the game developer and not the DS itself, but the PSP won't suffer from such things since it has no touch screen. Oh well, this argument is kind of pointless, but I thought I'd mention that little quibble anyway.
Overall, I highly recommend getting a DS. It works well, and the game library is great.
Customer Review: Fun on the go! Summary: 5 StarsI was debating if I should purchase the DS Lite or the DSi, but when I found out that the DSi couldn't play Gameboy Advance games, I decided to purchase the DS Lite Onyx Black. I LOVE it! So if your like me & want to play DS & GBA games, the DS Lite is a excellent choice.
Customer Review: Awesome!! Summary: 5 StarsI love my DS lite its very user friendly and as soon as I opened the package it was fully charged and ready to be played. I recommend the Legend of Zelda game for the DS, because its a game that really utilizes all the different features the DS has to offer. At some points in the game you have to blow out torches to enter different areas. Overall I am very pleased with this portable gaming system.
