Video Game Reviews of Professor Layton and the Curious VillageCustomer Review: Just ok... Summary: 3 StarsI was excited to get this game as it was recommended to me being a puzzle fanatic...the puzzles were fun and some were pretty challenging. This game did keep me entertained for a while...but then after only 9 hours of playing, I had finished the game and that was it. If I had known it would go by so fast I would have rented and not bought this game. Not worth the price.
Customer Review: Have Fun Improving Your Brain Summary: 5 StarsPros:
Wide variety of puzzles including trick questions, word play, sliding blocks exit puzzles, logical true/false statement detection, and many basic probability/algebra/geometry problems.
The character design, backgrounds, animation and music all converge to create a nice romanticized 'Old World' feel.
Contains a total 135 puzzles plus 26 downloadable ones, so lots of content.
The whole story is moved along solely by solving puzzles.(For me this is pro, but for those who like more traditional mystery/detective games then this may be a con.)
Cons:
I can't think of any significant problem with this game!
Comments:
I really enjoyed solving the puzzles. This is a great game for anyone wanting to improve their puzzling ability. I plan to play all the sequels and prequels as soon they are released. I found the fantastical story entertaining and endearing, though I would have preferred it being done without the villain being of the 'mad scientist' archetype, however I am just glad to have a game where the hero uses his brain instead of brawn to save the day.
Customer Review: Prof Layton and the serious letdown Summary: 3 StarsI had high hopes for this game, but I sorely disappointed by it. This was marketed as a puzzle\mystery game with adventure elements thrown in, but it is really a collection of math\logic problems that the game has you solve in order to progress the story. This wouldn't be so bad if the puzzles actually related to the story, but they don't (with the exception of a few lock and directional puzzles later in the game).
Unlike the other posters here, I wasn't impressed with the graphics. I thought the town looked nice, but the character designs were just ugly. I also found it odd that dialogue would switch from voice over back to talking heads in the middle of a cut scene.
I bought this expecting a mystery game, but the "I'll give you my clue if you solve my riddle" routine got tiresome. Sadly, the mystery that I was trying to get through wasn't all that great. I figured out both "shocking" revelations well before Layton did, but the twist ending still didn`t make sense (despite the game`s valiant efforts to explain it to us).
Customer Review: PL5 Summary: 5 StarsWhen I got this game I didn't think it would be a lot of fun, but it turned out to be one of my favorite games and itstill is even though I have beat the whole thing. this game is a really fun game if you are ;looking for a game that has mysteries and lots of places where the game takes unexpected turns. A couple of times I thought I had figured it out and I was wrong a couple of things are really oviouse like that Chemely is bad and stuff like that but for the most part it is a game where you can't figure it out until the very end. Plus it has really good mini entertainment clips and movies for you to watch and the ending is good. You also have the option to play extra puzzles if you want to by going to extras but you have to unlock tham. The game is challenging and there are parts where you have to solve a certain amount of puzzls to move on. if you like this game and think youcould scratch together 30$ for the second one you should if you did'nt know there was a second one until you read this review I don't think you have gotten on the internet for the past five years!
Customer Review: Professor Layton and the curious village Summary: 5 StarsThis game really challenges the mind and keeps you thinking outside of your comfort zone. Which if you like brain challenges you will love this game.
