Video Game Reviews of The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

Customer Review: Review on Phantom Hour Glass
Summary: 4 Stars

This game is my first ever Zelda video game. One thing good about it is action! At first, you don't have the sword (or any other weapon). One bad thing is bombs. Bombs are available in the beginning, but you need a bomb bag. Also, there's the phantoms. They're undefeatable, and they can take you out in one hit! It is a good game though.

Customer Review: Repetitive, dull, repetitive, boring and repetitive
Summary: 1 Stars

I dont understand why this game gets so many good reviews. It has no charm and the fact that every negative review says its repetitive is a joke in and of itself. Its not just the fact that the boat parts never offer any excitement, or that the dungeon bosses offer no challenge, but rather the fact that everything is controlled by jabbing the screen with a plastic stick. You want to attack? Jab the monster with the stylus. Want to pick something up? Jab it with the stylus. Shoot a monster with the ships cannon? Jab it with the stylus. Even walking and throwing a boomerang are confined to the stylus. Its simplified to the point of mindlessness. I know some people will argue that this is a kids game but as a member of a generation that had games like the original Zelda ,Metroid and Super Ghouls 'n' Ghosts I would say that even they deserve something more substantial than this. Every other Zelda game gives you a world to look around as you see fit, looking in caves for hearts and what not, this game you have empty blue space with monsters that pretty much disappear the second you notice and jab them and could the boat be any slower? at least if you had control of it while it was moving it would seem more interactive.

over 15 years ago I played Links Awakening on a tiny green screen that you couldn't see if it was too sunny (or cloudy) and it was a more challenging engrossing and satisfying than this.

If you found me going on about this game a bit repetitive Imagine if you'd spent twenty odd dollars for the privilege and that's what this game felt like to me.

Customer Review: Absolutely fantastic game.. Get it now if you haven't!
Summary: 5 Stars

Phantom Hourglass is one of the best games I've played in years. I had so much fun playing it. The control and feel to the game is excellent. This game is entirely unique and carries that outstanding 'Zelda' feel we've all come to know and love. The story line to this game is entertaining. There's all sorts of interesting things to do and styles of play.

No spoilers, no rambling from me, just my 100% approval and opinions given here. This game will not disappoint.. it's tremendous.

Customer Review: Good value, great adventure!
Summary: 5 Stars

This game is the second DS game I purchased and it was worth every penny. I have played only one other Zelda game before (on the Wii), and this one has similarities but more interesting puzzles. I forget how many hours I put onto this but I didn't want the adventure to end. I haven't come across any other games that used both the top and bottom screens so well (so far I have played on 6-7 games).

Rather than spoil the game by mentioning all the good parts (i.e. plot points), I want to focus on some of the negatives.

1. There is a circular motion to perform near the edge of the screen that is near impossible to perform under pressure. The designers admitted that they found it klugey too, but didn't have time to correct this. I believe they corrected it in Spirit Tracks (releasing soon in Dec. '09).

2. Obtain all 20 of _____ is very hard. Even looking at a gamefaq after collecting some is difficult because I couldn't remember if the Nth one on the list is one I already have. I would have loved to have known what happens when I do. Maybe that's what youtube is for.

3. I didn't have a manual with the game (pre-owned), but they could have explained some items a little better in-game. I had to learn by trial and error.

All-in-all, it's a very well made as to be expected and demanded for a franchise game.

Customer Review: A Kid's Perspective: Fun, Entertaining, Challenging - A Great Choice for Ages 9-14+
Summary: 5 Stars

Kid's Review: In this DS game, the main character, Zelda, is washed up on a beach and goes on an adventure with the Ocean King to fight against monsters and other creatures on multiple islands and unknown lands.

This game keeps getting more & more interesting (sometimes it drags, but picks up pretty quickly). At times it is really difficult, but it is really worth getting through it until the end.

Even after a couple of years, I still play this game because after you finish the game, you can level up & still get new adventures.

There is minor violence in the game - you have to kill the enemy for money or for time on your hourglass.

(Mother's note: we put age 9+ because of the killing of the enemy & rated the game 5 stars because the game has lasting power - kids keep playing it after 1 year).
